Lynda found her talent a bit later in life. She admits that she was not a creative child but enjoyed trying various things. Her mother made an attempt to teach Lynda to crochet, and in her words, “total disaster!” Lynda has also played with cross-stitch, ceramics, painting and sewing. It wasn’t until she got her hands into beads that she found her niche which led to a growing business.

The Handmade Artists' Shop is Reborn

Well we bit the bullet and start all over again from scratch. The first site we started with just didn't cut it, so when went back to the drawing board and concentrated on fast and simple. That is exactly what we achieved, fast and easy to navigate. The new site also has many more features and in some was many less. We concentrated on what was important for making online sales, the answer was simplicity. We are allowing a limited number of vendors to join so get your spot now. The fee is $5.00 a month and no more, there are no listing fees and no commissions charged, Simple!

We are also only allowing handmade items, too many of these handmade type venues are getting sloppy. They allow all kinds of mass produced items, it is like Macy's trying to compete with Walmart. We are not allowing resellers, no un-altered vintage, and no non-handmade supplies are allowed. Basically if you join and try to sell any of the above your shop will be removed with no refund. Sorry to be blunt but we will stick to our Terms and Conditions statement.

Well stop by and check us out the response has been great from all of our vendors. We have been told that the interface is easier than anywhere they have sold before, and most of our vendors have sold elsewhere.

We were lucky enough to get an advanced copy of “Chained” so that we can give it a once over and make sure that Rebeca didn’t mess up! We’ll she did not disappoint, the first thing I found is that “Chained” starts with the basics and leaves no stone unturned. My wife Kimberly and I have many other chainmaille books and tutorials that we have collected over the years while creating jewelry for Chainmaille By MBOI, and the one thing they always forget is the basics. This book goes through the important stuff like how to open and close a jump ring. Simple right? Not so,if you don’t close a jump ring properly your piece will just look like crap for lack of better words. So the art of properly closing a jump ring is just critical if you want to learn how to weave chainmaille

Mosaic Wall Mirror-Tears of the Sun

The focal point and theme of this mosaic started with the Talavera Sun face. I just loved all the bright colors and continued this throughout the mosaic.

The border is done in honey gold glass tiles along with deep cobalt blue ceramic tiles. I chose to use bright red glass tiles at each corner of the 12" mirror which represents arrowheads.

Cobalt blue mini ceramic tiles are used for the circle surrounding the face as well as the half moon designs at the sides and bottom.

The red mini tiles around the face are also ceramic as are the large diamond-shaped ones which represent feathers.

The tiles for the body were cut from very colorful floral patterned dishes and went perfectly with the bright colors in this piece.

Dragonfly Modern Mosaic Wall Mirror

This fun modern mosaic has two of the trendiest colors of the season-turquoise and bright orange.

The dragonfly at the right corner is a Polymer Clay disk that I purchased from Peggy's Polymer Clay Creations here on Etsy.

The entire mosaic is made from different forms of glass from the orange translucent and opaque gems to the deep turquoise and lavender square tiles.

The background was made by cutting 1/2" glass tiles into triangles and grouting with a charcoal color.

The base is made of 1/2" plywood and framed using 1/4" wood strips. It was then painted black and varnished using a satin sheen.

I wanted a different look for a chain to wear with my Cross and noticed the stone embellished chains. The problem was, the stones on most of those were to large to fit through the bail rings. So I took a high quality cable chain and added some 3mm Aquamarine AB Swarovski Crystals and 2mm silver beads. Now the chain sparkles and shimmers on its own enhancing any pendant it is worn with. The chain can also be worn alone or with other chains for the layered look. This one measures approximately 18" and has a spring ring clasp.

While I can't promise it will fit through absolutely every pendant bail, the beads are tiny enough that it will fit through most.

This handmade bracelet by DianaShyeJewelry features sterling silver Egyptian spirals and a teal colored bloodstone bead. It recalls the classic elegance of ancient Egypt because I made it with the same technique the ancient Egyptian used to make the jewelry royalty and nobility.

The spiral components are antiqued sterling silver wire, about 3/4" wide (2 cm) and the individual coils are about 3/8" (1 cm) in diameter. Lavender MicroEmbellished Sterling Chain

I wanted a different look for a chain to wear with my Cross. So I took a good quality cable chain and added some 3mm AAA lavender seed pearls and 2mm silver beads. Now the chain sparkles and shimmers on its own enhancing the pendant. It can also be worn alone or with other chains for the layered look.

While I can't promise it will fit through absolutely every pendant bail, the beads are tiny enough that it will fit through most.

This eco-friendly flower is made from fabulous upcycled fabrics from the Scrap Exchange in Durham, NC. I used a combination of thinner delicate fabric and tougher, rich fabric. The first fabric is a white patterned print with pink daisies and green leaves. The second is a gorgeous peach colored fabric as a lightly contrasting accent. The button used as the flower center is a fun vintage button from my grandmother's collection. The bright yellow disk is surrounded by a beautiful golden filigree weave. It's meant not only to reflect the center of a traditional flower, but to inspire the feeling one gets when basking in the warmth of the sun.

The petals were machine sewn on my antique Singer and then hand stitched together. The button was also hand sewn on and the pin bar is attached with a self adhesive. This sexy brooch is perfect for up-styling a scarf, purse, or blouse this spring and summer.

A couple days ago I became a full member of the Handmade Artists' Forum which allowed me to set up as a vendor in the Handmade Artists' Shop. Now this may seem like a redundancy as I already have an etsy shop, however after some indepth research I've found several things that make HAF stand out. For starters they support ALL of US; whether you are a seller on Etsy, ArtFire, Zibbet, your own storefront, twitter, facebook or a blogger if you craft with your own talents on any level they support and love you for it. Secondly I don't know of any other format that has the experience and dedication behind it that HAF does, Andrew and Kimberly head up a team that provides round the clock support for all levels of their site. E.g. It's 4am and I just tried to create a new seller profile only to realize that I clicked the wrong link and created a buyer profile instead... emailed their admin page... fixed in MINUTES!

I'd like to take a moment to introduce you to a cooperative collective of Handmade Artists that I recently joined. The Handmade Artists' Forum (or HAF) was founded in April 2009 by Andrew & Kimberly Kitchen in order to provide a venue for all manner of artists to unite and support each other.

The idea is really rather simple....cooperative competition. Not everyone is in direct competition with each other because of the wide variety of arts represented. However, those who are have come to understand that we can band together to succeed.

I was looking for a way to use those little piece of glass that I have picked up off of the beach. This sterling silver cage measures 4 cm (1 1/2 in) from top of the bale to the bottom of the curls and holds 5 pieces of blue sea glass found on the Jersey Shore. This piece comes complete and ready to wear with an 18 in sterling silver cable chain.

These heavy duty, hand painted mugs measure 5” tall with a 4” wide opening and hold 16oz when filled to the top. The glass is absolutely clear and has been hand painted with fat pumpkins and bright sunflowers that are perfect for your coffee or tea! This is for a set of 4, but I will gladly take requests for lesser or greater numbers.

All of my glassware has been hand painted with heat cured enamel for years of use. It can be washed in the top rack of your dishwasher. This means you can actually use it!

Full Persian Steampunk Necklace

This necklace is my first attempt at Steampunk. It’s made using jewelers brass in a full persian weave. The necklace measures 22″ long as I felt the pendant should hang a little lower than normal because of the size. The pendant is the inards of a Elgin Natonal Pocket watch that has been wrapped with a 3/4 persian and some modification to hold the watch in place. The pendant is 2″ in diameter and whole piece is a weighty 5 ounces. This piece is also reversible if you need a different look, the back of the pendant will give off a different feel dependant on where your wearing to. The clasp is a handmade hammered brass “S” clasp. As always we can re-size the necklace to your required lenght as needed. This is one of a kind piece and will not be reproduced.

Well a new movement is among us where hadnmade artists have banned together in a unified effort to support each other. Over 170 artists have joined the Handmade Artists’ Forum with more joining everyday. One member, is a fellow mailler or this a case a femailler, Jill from Liv’nGood Jewelry who has also joined in this effort to support eah other as a community of artists. Many of you may be saying why is a chainmailler helping their competition, well I’ll tell you. I know that I’m not the only game in town selling chainmaille, their are many, but I might have something that she doesn’t sell and visa versa. Well since we just joined I'd figure I'd tell you a little about us and what we do and who we are.

MBOI is made up of my wife Kimberly ( The President, CEO, Controller, Painter, Mailler, and Creative
Superpower) who is currently in the process of finishing her teacher degree, and Andrew ( Stock boy
and Mailler ) who is a Senior Estimator for a Heavy Construction Company which is based in New Jersey.

We currently reside in Point Pleasant, NJ which is a small beach town on the Jersey Shore.

When creating our chainmaille jewelry and various items we start with raw wire and coil and saw cut our
own rings.
We work in various metals also, so if you see something you like but would rather have it in a different
metal just let us know. We work in sterling silver, copper, bronze, anodized aluminum, enameled copper,
and bright aluminum.

Byzantine Kit and Tutorial

This tutorial is a detailed step by step on how to make a Byzantine chainmaille weave. We have painstakingly made these instructions so that a beginner will be able to go through without a problem. The tutorial is full of pictures which graphically guide you through each step. We will offer full support for any questions you may have while working on your piece. The downloadable file is in PDF format, if you don’t have a PDF reader you can download it for free.

Our kits will have enough rings in it to make a nine inch bracelet with a couple extra just in case you have a mistake. The rings will all be polished and smooth and of the utmost of quality, if you don’t want your rings polished just let us know by adding a note a checkout. The kit will also contain the tutorial and a lobster clasp. You will need two pair of pliers to construct your bracelet, the pliers are obviously not included.

Copper Byzantine Cubed Bracelet

This byzantine bracelet measures 7.5″ in length and is separated by 4 Japanese 8 & 2 cubes. The cubes are separated by 6mm indian agates. The cubes and agate are strung on copper wire so that they can move freely on the piece for those of you who like to play with your jewelry. This piece is held secure with a handmade “S” clasp.

Well Kimberly came up with another beautiful design this byzantine necklace measures 21″ in length and is centered by 3 Japanese 8 & 2 cubes. The cubes are separated by 10mm black jade rounds. The center pendant is definitely the focal point of this piece; the jade and sterling cubes are strung on a sterling silver wire so that they can move freely on the piece for those of you who like to play with your jewelry. While this necklaces measures 21″ it hangs more like an 18″ chain because of the bar style pendant the additional length was necessary. This piece is held secure with a sterling silver toggle clasp. We will size your necklace to your choosing at no additional cost. Kimberly has designed matching earrings and photos will be posted soon.

Breast Cancer Awareness Auction

Chainmaille By MBOI along with several other jewelers have donated item to support Breast Cancer Awareness. Go to Triage From Home to veiw the items and bid, all the proceeds go directly to helping breast cancer. The auction ends March 17, 2009 at 12 noon.

Just a side note Kimberly my partner in crime with MBOI lost her grandmother to breast cancer in 2003 this was a very tough thing to go through as you can imagine as her grandmother was an intregal part of her upbringing in Montana. Her grandmother honestly is directly responsible for our business starting as she got Kimberly involved in crafts at a young age.
